May I just start by saying that I hate have hate this winter. I hate the cold, the snow, the ice, the heavy clothes, the thin air. I can see the beauty in it though, when the snow is fluffy and new. When the clouds perfectly diffuse the light. Then it is almost magical. For the past few months my friend Jeannie, a very talented makeup artist, and I have wanted to collaborate on a snow styled shoot. Just when we thought we’d missed our window, winter soldiered on and we ended up with a beautiful day full of fresh falling snow. I was somewhat inspired by Frozen, as like the rest of the world I have “Let it Go” on a constant loop in my head. We basically wanted to tell the story of a woman, headed into a new life, a little lost, but free.
We started our shoot at a park near Lake Michigan and realized quickly that the whipping winds and 20 degree weather were going to be challenging, so we gave up on most of the props and set ups and let the winter wonderland be all the prop we needed. That and an incredible vintage fur. I’m so glad we braved the weather and so glad we were able to pull this shoot together. I am so in love with these images. Jeannie’s makeup was amazing, soft and beautiful and perfect for the setting. A BIG thank you to our beautiful model Mary Kate who was amazing in the very worst of conditions. The cold never bothered her anyway 😉
The makeup artist at work. It’s her birthday today, so leave her some comment love below!
