Will and Katie: Chicago Photoshoot

I was thrilled to have my brother William and his wife Katie in town for a long weekend and even more thrilled to be able to have a photo shoot with this fun couple.  The last time I saw them was their wedding weekend last June and they are as much in love now as they were then and have definitely settled into the rhythm of marriage.  They bicker with affection and steal kisses when they think no one is looking.  When we stopped for milkshakes Will knew immediately his wife would go for the chai flavor and she knew he would prefer fried eggs over scrambled for breakfast.  I love these two people, William is a great brother who will quote whole scenes from Spaceballs with me, and I love having Katie’s vote on my side so we can veto the boy’s choice of Family Guy in favor of the Grey’s Anatomy season finale on Hulu Plus, (Oz was the tiebreaker, Grey’s is his guilty pleasure!).

They brought the sun with them from Texas and we had a beautiful day on Saturday and had a great photo shoot at my favorite hidden gem in Chicago, The Garfield Park Conservatory.  If you’ve never been you need to go, it’s open year round and filled with rooms upon rooms of gorgeous plants and best of all its free!  There are incredible outside gardens as well, but it’s great to know there’s a place in the city that you can escape to in the winter and remind yourself what warmth and greenery are!  We took advantage of all the hidden nooks and crannies to get some truly beautiful images.

Sunday was another gorgeous weather day and we planned on some more shots once the light softened, however it started to look like the big thunderstorm rolling in might beat us to it and the sudden clouds that rolled in cancelled out all the harsh shadows we wanted to avoid.  These guys are real troopers.  We ran to the beach, which fortunately is practically next door and got some great images before the drops started falling.  The rain wasn’t all bad though,  I was able to use it to my photographic advantage to grab a couple super sweet shots.   I certainly hope it’s not another year before I get to photograph these two, we’ve got an invitation to visit them in Texas and I can’t think of anything better than Tex Mex, margaritas and good times with family!

It really was too easy to photograph these two!

I love this backdrop!

It’s important to laugh and have fun as a couple!

I love how he looks at her….

And how she looks when she’s with him, so gorgeous!
